Chapter 1529 - 71: Absolutely Perfect Future
Afterwards, things became much simpler.Bologue handed the broken Speaker over to Holt. Now, the Speaker’s Rectangular Soul Critical was completely shattered, and the Alchemy Matrix was covered with Soul Scars. As long as Holt maintained absolute sluggishness over his consciousness, he could incapacitate the Speaker to the greatest extent.
The life and death of the Speaker, for now, as long as he remained within the range of the Nest Core, he would not die temporarily. As for leaving the Nest Core... Bologue had no intention to try, and as for further handling of the Speaker, that was not Bologue’s concern; it should be resolved by those professional Scholars of the Sublimation Furnace Core.
"Good teamwork."
Bologue sat down against the wall. The continuous battles had drained him greatly, not to mention he had simultaneously activated two types of Protection. The twisting pain and discomfort of his mind lingered without end. Under this torture, Bologue once thought about committing suicide to reset his physical state and see if it could alleviate his condition.
Forget it, life is precious, and just because I’m Undead, it doesn’t mean I should abuse it.
Bologue squinted his eyes slightly, relaxing all the muscles in his body. The soreness surged in like waves.
Holt, carrying the broken Speaker, staggered over to Bologue and sat down against the wall as well.
"Indeed, very good."
Holt raised his hand and gently clapped hands with Bologue.
The two exchanged a smile and then fell into silence. Just a few minutes ago, they were comrades fighting side by side, but after the battle ended, the not-so-familiar pair became awkward again.
Holt was the first to break the silence, "So that was a type of Protection?"
Bologue nodded, raising the Vengeful Saw Axe that had now quieted down, "Yes, it comes from the Sin of Wrath: Eyes of Eternal Fury. The specific effect is roughly to temporarily fuse with the weapon, thereby gaining part of the power of the Eyes of Eternal Fury, plunging into a frenzy of slaughter."
"Oh..."
Holt sighed, silently shifting his body, trying to distance himself from the hand axe a bit.
Bologue said, "You seem to have a lot to say."
"Not really... just a bit surprised."
"Surprised about what?"
"Hmm..."
Holt recalled the brutal scene of Bologue’s transformation into a monstrous creature covered with blades, like a razor, each strike stripping large patches of flesh, with blood gushing continuously.
"Do you usually fight like that?" Holt sighed, "You’re much more brutal than I imagined."
"No, no."
Bologue waved his hands repeatedly, justifying himself, "I’m no madman for violence, only in necessary circumstances would I take such risks."
He added, "You don’t think that Protection is a free power, do you?"
Holt observed Bologue’s eyes for a moment, then responded, "Indeed, all power comes with a price."
"Fortunately, I can afford these prices," Bologue joked, "If it were someone else doing this, after slaying the Speaker, you’d have to think of a way to suppress him."
Holt gave a bitter smile. After the battle, Bologue returned to normalcy, but during a few glances, Holt could still see the extreme killing intent in Bologue’s eyes, as if even the continuous battles couldn’t satisfy Bologue, and perhaps in the next second, Bologue would swing his sword at him.
"But oh, thank heavens, the worst-case scenario didn’t occur."
Bologue slid down, lying completely straight on the ground.
Holt curiously asked, "What do you mean?"
"We failed, and no matter the means, couldn’t kill that bastard."
"I guess..." Holt paused, asking, "Even in that situation, you still had countermeasures, didn’t you?"
"Of course," Bologue patted his chest while lying down, "I’m a professional. Dealing with all potential emergencies is part of my duty."
"What do you plan to do?"
Holt’s curiosity was piqued. As the strongest Seeker of Glory in the Order Bureau, if he couldn’t handle the Speaker, how could Bologue, a Defender, do it?
"I’ll ask you to escape, and see if we can save a few more people along the way, hopefully clearing out this High Tower."
Bologue said while rummaging through his pocket and holding up a shiny object, "Once everything is ready, I’ll activate this thing."
Holt looked curiously at the shiny object. It looked like a crystal ornament, completely without any Ether reaction or detectable evil aura.
"What is this?"
"A Crystal Core, a Light-Burning Crystal Core."
Bologue said in a carefree tone, "Remember the fire that burned the Beast of the Herd in the Abandoned Land? That’s what this thing unleashes, you should be quite familiar with it."
Holt fell silent once more, looking at the Vengeful Saw Axe, then the Crystal Core, and silently moved sideways a bit, keeping a safe distance from Bologue.
"Oh... oh! It’s Light-Burning, so this is it, this is it."
Holt’s heart was as white as a sheet. He originally thought that Bologue carrying a piece of Original Sin Armament was dangerous enough, but he never anticipated that he also had a Light-Burning Crystal Core. Damn it, as long as there was enough Ethereal Amount, this bastard was a walking human-shaped super bomb.
Others might not feel much about the Light-Burning, but Holt was different. He had holed up in that damned Abandoned Land for so many years, almost living in constant company with these damned things.
